What Will I Learn and How Will I Learn?
This course offers project-based learning to introduce students to the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Students will review the 2019 United Nations Global Goals and conduct research to solve or reduce the negative impact of the issue. Student will be expected to complete a variety of assessment from different curriculum areas such as, Technology, English, Business Studies, Science and Mathematics (depending on the project other areas may be relevant). Students will learn many skills, including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, information literacy, media literacy, technology literacy, flexibility, leadership, initiative, productivity and social skills.

Standards on Offer
The STEM programme allows students to decide on their learning pathway. The learning they will undertake will determine which NCEA standards they complete. Students will have access to achievement standards that will give them 18-22 credits.

Course Outline
This will be given to students in 2020.

Conditions of Assessment
Collection of evidence for the internally assessed standards can include, but is not restricted to, an extended task, an investigation, digital evidence (such as recorded interviews, blogs, photographs or film) or a portfolio of evidence. Assessment can be integrated into one activity that collects evidence towards two or three different standards from a programme of learning.  Evidence can also be collected over time from a range of linked activities (for example, in a portfolio). Authenticity of student evidence needs to be assured regardless of the method of collecting evidence.

Resubmissions and Further Assessment Opportunities
Resubmissions can only be offered once and only when small errors or omissions need to be corrected in student work in a short period of time. There is no further teaching available. Further assessment opportunities are not available in every standard.

Recommended Prior Learning

Although entry is open, a reasonable level of literacy is required.
